Bioactive Compound Synthetic Capacity and Ecological Significance of Marine Bacterial Genus Pseudoalteromonas
The genus Pseudoalteromonas is a marine group of bacteria belonging to the class Gammaproteobacteria that has come to attention in the natural product and microbial ecology science fields in the last decade. Pigmented species of the genus have been shown to produce an array of low and high molecular weight compounds with antimicrobial, anti-fouling, algicidal and various pharmaceutically-releva...
متن کاملSpotlight on Antimicrobial Metabolites from the Marine Bacteria Pseudoalteromonas: Chemodiversity and Ecological Significance
This review is dedicated to the antimicrobial metabolite-producing Pseudoalteromonas strains. The genus Pseudoalteromonas hosts 41 species, among which 16 are antimicrobial metabolite producers. To date, a total of 69 antimicrobial compounds belonging to 18 different families have been documented. They are classified into alkaloids, polyketides, and peptides. Finally as Pseudoalteromonas strain...
متن کاملModulation of proteasome machinery by natural and synthetic analogues of the marine bioactive compound petrosaspongiolide M.
Natural or synthetic? Several petrosaspongiolide M natural and synthetic analogues have been tested as proteasome inhibitors and apoptosis modulators. The natural petrosaspongiolide M congeners gave a consistent decrease in activity. Among the synthetic analogues, the introduction of the benzothiophene ring resulted in a bioequivalent alternative of the petrosaspongiolide M terpenoid system.
متن کاملEcological and agricultural significance of bacterial polyhydroxyalkanoates.
Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) are a group of carbon andenergy storage compounds that are accumulated during suboptimal growth by many bacteria, and intracellularly deposited in the form of inclusion bodies. Accumulation of PHAs is thought to be used by bacteria to increase survival and stress tolerance in changing environments, and in competitive settings where carbon and energy sources may be l...
متن کاملPhysiological, ecological, and phylogenetic characterization of Stappia, a marine CO-oxidizing bacterial genus.
Bacteria play a major role in marine CO cycling, yet very little is known about the microbes involved. Thirteen CO-oxidizing Stappia isolates obtained from existing cultures, macroalgae, or surf samples representing geographically and ecologically diverse habitats were characterized using biochemical, physiological, and phylogenetic approaches. All isolates were aerobic chemoorganotrophs that o...
